MILAN MILOJEVIC

I really like the art of Milan Milojevic.

I consider him one of the most vital and unique artists we have locally; I like his approach to art, his aesthetic, his use of differing techniques for creating his images and his sense of absurd comedy. Milan knows how to make really lush, vivid work that is near psychedelic – or at least informed by a notion of the psychedelic. I particularly like the way Milan uses culture and the detritus of mass media culture as part of his palette – there’s something really crucial in the way that his work samples, chops up and re-deploys imagery from old books – I like to think of him actually taking the scissors to old mouldering material objects that have been deemed precious by someone, but are not really – Milan is an artist whose work said something really crucial to me about culture that has powerfully affected how I view art, and how we can make it.
